Text of a statement displayed in the high-street window of a Quaker Meeting House in Devon in advance of June 2004 European Parliament and local council elections
"Elections are coming up on 10th June.
As Quakers, we are particularly concerned about political parties with policies that are, in one way or another, racist.
In unity with Christians throughout the land, we reject support for such organizations as being incompatible with the God we know.
God's love and justice are for all people, and we seek a society which reflects this.
Here, in Devon, we are best served by leaders whose interest is in including people and who understand the richness of diversity, and not by those who bring division and hatred.
Extremist candidates are normally elected when people of moderation and good sense don't vote. So we encourage all of you who are committed to open, just and democratic communities to vote on June 10th.
Vote for candidates who share your commitment and your concern for those who are excluded and oppressed."
