Text of a leaflet used by Bolton Quakers at their weekly peace vigil, resumed in November 2004 Quaker Vigil for Peace  “I object to violence because when it appears to do good, the good is only temporary; the evil it does is permanent.”                                                     Gandhi ~~~ We are appalled by the growing levels of violence being inflicted as a result of terrorism, of the 'war on terrorism' and by the invasion and occupation of Iraq.   Violence, injustice and the abuse of human rights all feed violence.  We can only really be secure in this world by ensuring our neighbours are secure. In this world all people are neighbours.   Too many people regard violence as the only response to violence; there has to be another way. Gandhi - and many before and since - have shown that non-violence works. In the current situation, it is clear that violence is not doing anyone any good.
